Missed Lessons
-
Makeup lessons are offered during designated Makeup Weeks, which are built into the teaching calendar and do not include regularly scheduled lessons.
If you have makeup lessons owed, you may book up to that number of lessons during a Makeup Week through the scheduler.
If you do not have any , there will be no lesson that week.
Credits are added when you notify me in advance that you’ll be away, or if a lesson is missed. This will be tracked in the Vivid Practice App, so you can always check how many credits you have and whether they have been booked.
Holidays are already accounted for in the yearly schedule and will not be made up (ie: holidays are not counted as part of the 36 weeks of the program so you are not charged fro these days)—except for Monday students on Family Day and Victoria Day, who will automatically receive 2 credits at the start of lessons.
Makeup lessons must be:
Booked through the scheduler, where you'll see all available days and times
Used during the scheduled Makeup Weeks (see the calendar for dates) and cannot be carried over into the summer.
I’ll send reminders before each Makeup Week, but it is your responsibility to book your lessons and to ask or check the Vivid Practice App if you’re unsure how many credits you have.
Please note: If you are away for an extended period (e.g. a month or more), you are welcome to book as many makeup lessons as you'd like during the available Makeup Weeks. However, if you do not book any, or do not book enough, or if there aren’t enough available times, you will not be given a refund, and makeup lessons cannot be carried over into the summer.
-
If I am ever absent, your missed lesson will be rescheduled during a designated Makeup Week, just like student absences.
If my absence causes you to exceed the number of Makeup Weeks built into the calendar, I will either:
Provide additional makeup options, or
Issue a refund for the missed lesson if no suitable times are available
I do my best to plan ahead and keep your schedule consistent, but if something unexpected comes up, I’ll make sure it’s handled fairly.
-
Lessons that fall on Family Day and Victoria Day are eligible for makeup during designated Makeup Weeks. These are the only holidays that will be credited for Monday students.
At the start of the teaching year, two makeup credits will automatically be added to your account to cover these holidays. It is your responsibility to book these makeups through the studio portal.
Both the portal and the calendar will show makeup weeks. Only the portal shows time slots where makeups can be booked. -
Regular enrollment is for the full September–June lesson season. Tuition is based on the full 36-week program and divided into 10 equal monthly payments. Monthly tuition cannot be paused or skipped for vacations, busy seasons, temporary schedule conflicts, or missed lessons.
If a family will be away for an extended period, tuition continues in order to keep the student’s lesson time reserved. Families who do not wish to continue tuition during an extended absence may withdraw from lessons, and the spot may be offered to a student on the waiting list.
If you know before registering that you are only able to participate for part of the school year, this must be discussed and approved before registration.
Students enrolled in a shortened season may not be eligible for year-end projects, recitals, composition books, art showcases, final progress materials, or other end-of-year opportunities unless specifically arranged.
Payment
-
The program includes 36 weeks of lessons throughout the year. Weeks that fall on holidays are not included in this count, so you are not charged for those breaks.
Lesson fees for these 36 weeks are divided evenly across 10 monthly payments. Therefore the number of lessons in a given month is irrelevant.
The only exceptions are Family Day and Victoria Day for Monday students—those lessons are included in the 36 and can be made up during Makeup Weeks. (See the section on Monday Students for details.)

Your monthly tuition and one-time registration fee are all-inclusive—there are no surprise costs throughout the year. This includes all music books, printed materials such as sheet music, games, and activities for their binder, and the binder itself to help students stay organized. It also covers art supplies (where applicable), in-person and video recitals, student projects, and other studio events or sharing opportunities offered throughout the year.
In addition to lesson time, a great deal happens behind the scenes: I create custom curriculum, plan and prep weekly lessons, track student progress, and regularly invest in professional development to continue growing as a teacher. Your investment supports not just time in lessons, but a thoughtfully designed, well-rounded program that nurtures each student’s creativity and growth.
-
Monthly tuition is due on the 1st of each month. If payment is missed, a friendly reminder will be sent. If payment remains outstanding after a second reminder, lessons may be paused until the account is up to date. Please reach out if there is ever an issue with payment timing.
Piano Practice
-
Consistent practice is essential for progress—but it doesn’t happen on its own. Parents are encouraged to help set a daily scheduled practice time and remind students to stick to it. You don’t need to help with the actual practicing, but your support in creating structure is key.
Step 1: Build the Habit
At first, the goal isn’t how long they practice or even what they practice—just that they show up at the same time each day. One powerful method is habit stacking: attach practice to something that already happens daily (e.g. “right after breakfast” or “before screen time”). Over time, practice becomes part of the routine, not a chore.
Think of it like school band or extracurricular clubs—they often meet every day or several times a week. That kind of consistency is what builds progress, and it’s no different with piano.
Step 2: Follow the Assignment
Once the habit is in place, students should begin practicing with intention—reviewing everything assigned for the week. (This is where the Vivid Practice app becomes especially helpful.)
With a set schedule and routine, students progress faster, feel more confident, and enjoy their lessons even more.
-
We use the Vivid Practice app to track weekly assignments and support consistent progress. All practice notes are stored in the app, making it easy for students to follow their assignments and stay on track. It also allows me to see how often students are practicing and helps build good habits with reminder notifications.
Vivid is simple for kids to use, and if your child has their own device, I recommend installing it there. Parents are encouraged to help their child get into the habit of using the app regularly, and to reach out if you ever have questions about assignments, practice routines, or anything else.
The app also features a chat function, where students can ask questions, share wins, or just say hi—I love hearing from them!help, to share a win or if they just want to say hi. I love hearing from students!
And remember: don’t wait for inspiration to practice—inspiration comes from practicing.
